1930 – 2018
Chicopee - Barbara Laurraine Chapdelaine, 87, of Chicopee passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 2, 2018 and is now reunited with her beloved husband, Roger C. Chapdelaine. Barbara was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on May 7, 1930 the daughter of Angelo & Elizabeth (Ledoux) Lombardi. Barbara was a stay-at-home mother until her children were older and then began working with special needs children and was trained in American sign language. Later in life she proudly earned her L.P.N. license and worked at Baystate Medical Center and the Chicopee School Dept. She and her husband, Roger were very active volunteers in both civic and community service work. Whether travelling on vacation to Vegas or Venezuela they always enjoyed exciting sights together. Barbara loved reading (especially historical romance), crocheting, ceramics and bingo at Foxwoods with friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger C. Chapdelaine, brother John Drobot, sister, Irene Traska, daughter, Charlene Assarian. She is survived by her siblings, Mary McKenna, Helen Omer, daughters Beverly (Hank) Baker, Joyce (Don) Whiting, Laurie (David) Brigham, Lynn (Steve) Gamble, sons, Anthony (Jill) Chapdelaine & Robert Chapdelaine. Special niece and friend, Betty Cignoli. She will be missed by her many loving grand-children, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. A special thank you to the Nursing staff at Mercy Hospital for their compassionate care and support. A Private Memorial Service will be held at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Wed. Feb. 7, 2018 at the Grise' Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chicopee Senior Center, 5 West Main St, Chicopee, MA 01020, or to the Chicopee Public Library, 449 Front St, Chicopee, MA 01013.
