William E. Marsh, Sr., 90, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, February 2, 2018, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday.
Mr. Marsh was born October 11, 1927 in Turner County, Georgia to the late Dr. John E. & Myrtle Summerford Marsh. He was a 1945 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Marsh, AKA “Slick” was an engineer for 46 years having worked for Atlantic Coast Line, Chessie Seaboard Systems, and CSX Railroad. He was a member of Pine Level Lodge F.&A.M. for almost 70 years. Mr. Marsh was also a member of Hasan Shrine in Albany, the Ben Hillbilly parade unit, and the American Legion. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mr. Marsh is survived by children, Lynn Marsh, Nancy Marsh Jackson & Tom, Beth Marsh Sherrer & Tommy, Bill Marsh & Christi, and Tom Marsh & Lynn; grandchildren: Cynthia Jackson, Liana Jackson Biddulph & Zach, Thomas Sherrer & Kristi, Will Sherrer, McKenna Marsh, Matt Marsh, Conner West, Kayla Young & Jamie, Hannah Marsh, Austin Adams & Emily, and Jacob Marsh; and great-grandchildren: Isabella Jackson, Noah Jackson, Lily Claire Biddulph, Tre’ Young, Hayden Young, and Emma Young. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Smith Marsh; two brothers, John Ernest Marsh, Jr. and his twin brother, Plyde P. Marsh; and two sisters: Myrtle Marsh Flowers and Joan Marsh Rice.
