Armand J. "Sonny" Donati, of Malden, formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 2nd at the Dexter House in Malden. He was 79.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Somerville and was the son of the late Ermano L. and Sylvia (Avallone) Donati. Sonny graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1956. After high school, he worked in the air freight industry, serving as President and CEO of the company he began, ADCI, Inc. After his retirement, Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Sonny was a man of great faith, and lived his life in accordance with the Christian values: faith, hope and charity. He also had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed cooking for his loved ones. He was an excellent cook, and was famous for many dishes. Sonny also enjoyed movies or motion pictures as he referred to them. He will be remembered for his loving personality and wonderful storytelling.
Sonny was the beloved father of the late Anna Maria Donati and the loving brother of Carmela Sullivan and her husband Dennis of Malden. He was the dear uncle of Shawn Sullivan and his wife Sory, Mark Sullivan and his wife April, all of Malden, Melissa Bunting and her husband William of Stoneham, and the late Bryan Sullivan. Sonny was the great uncle of five, and is also survived by his former wife, Anna Donati of Revere.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Wednesday, February 7th at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with entombment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
