Georgia Maria Koudas passed away peacefully on February 2, 2018 at Wingate in South Hadley. She was 102. Our beloved Georgia was born on Sept. 14, 1915 in Lewiston, ME to the late Demitrios and Vasiliki (Sioras) Kargas. Upon returning to Greece as a child, she grew up in Kalamata and married Kostantinos Mylonopoulos, who was killed while fighting for Greece in Oros Tepelina, Alabania in 1941. Not to be deterred by widowhood, Georgia’s love for life and unique style captured the heart of Michael Koudas. Georgia and Michael fell in love and were married in 1945. In 1948, Georgia, Michael, and their three daughters immigrated to America where they settled down in Aldenville, MA. Georgia lost her dear Michael in 1960. Yet her faith in God, love for her daughters, and a will to survive, enabled Georgia to overcome this tremendous loss. Possessing a generous and sympathetic nature, she always found it in her heart to show compassion towards others. Georgia left an indelible impression on all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptohos Society. She leaves three daughters; Tina Evangeliou, Bessie Despotopoulos and her husband George, and Patricia Tsandilas and her husband John; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by all of her four siblings, her son-in-law Greg Evangeliou, and her grandchild Dina. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at 11 AM at Sts. Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 10 AM-11 AM at the church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.Grisefh.com for online condolences. Special thanks to all of those wonderful and caring souls (angels from heaven) at Wingate who made it possible for Georgia to live her last years with integrity and dignity.
