Doris L. (Plough) Newland, 95, of Anderson died January 30, 2018 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus after an extended illness.
Doris was born in Union County, In to Edward and Louise (Grant) Plough on November 17, 1922. She was the youngest of five children. The family moved to the Anderson area during the early 1940's. Doris lived in Anderson, thereafter attending Anderson Schools and working for many years at the Delco Remy cafeteria. Retiring from Canteen Corp. Her sister Betty Humke and brothers, Chester, Lloyd and Morris Plough having all gone before her.
She loved children. As a young woman and not having a child, she placed an ad in the Anderson newspapers. In response to that ad, seventy some years ago, Doris took a two day trip to Florida by train. She went alone, not pregnant and returned with a baby boy. During the following years, she cared for many others. When she married Joe Newland, she gained an even larger family to love and care for. She claimed us all. Seven children including David Plough, Mary Kay McCrocklin, William Newland (deceased), Jack Newland, Teresa Klus, Phillip Newland and Steve Newland, 13 grandchildren, 18, great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She took care of all she could along the way and loved them all.
She also enjoyed traveling, going as far as England and much of the USA, and as far as California. A faithful Christian, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young woman. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Ned Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 am until the service Monday at the funeral home.
