Obituary

Michael Shawn Bammes, 55, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Silvia H. (Scheller) Bammes.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma he was the son of Donald Bammes of Texas and the late Ann (Christian) Hornby. He served with the US Army in Germany during the early to mid 1980’s. Following his tour of duty he returned to the Southwest where he worked in mining. Shawn moved to Salem from Nevada in 2011. He was currently employed as an equipment operator for the DPW of Lynnfield.
Shawn (Mike) was a fun loving man and jokester to his many friends and family. His smile was contagious. He was a diehard Oklahoma Sooners and Oakland Raiders fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and his shooting sports. He was a desert rat from Arizona turned Bostonian. He loved and enjoyed his job at DPW. Shawn’s biggest love was traveling all over with his wife, whom he loved and adored and finally found his happiness with.
In addition to his wife Silvia, he is survived by his father Donald, his step-dad, Richard Hornby of California, his sister, Mary Ann Laffoon and her husband Mark of Nevada, niece, Noelle Symonds and her husband Nate of Washington, nephew, Patrick Laffoon of California, his in-laws, Erich and Linda Scheller of South Carolina Ursula Scheller and her husband Guenter Liermann of Germany, Stefan Scheller & family of Germany and Terry Wood & family of California and a few very close friends.
A private celebration of life/reception will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
