Obituary

Charles E. Lajoie, Jr., 78, of New Bedford died January 31, 2018 at Tobey Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (McKenna) Lajoie with whom he would have celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary on February 10th.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Charles E. and Beatrice E. (Vigeant) Lajoie, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Lajoie served 28 years with the New Bedford Police Department retiring as a narcotics detective. In 1976, he was honored as Officer of the Year.
He enjoyed baseball, football, golf, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling. His many hunting trips to Nantucket and family trips to Aruba were among his favorites.
Mr. Lajoie served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Michael P. Lajoie and his wife Iva of Acushnet and Stephen S. Lajoie of New Bedford; a daughter, Suzanne E. DeCosta and her husband Michael W. of Stormville, NY; and 8 grandchildren, Michael P. Lajoie, Jr., Bethany A. Lajoie, Megan E. Lajoie, Nicholas E. Lajoie, Sarah E. DeCosta, Michael W. DeCosta, Jr., Nicole K. DeCosta and Samantha P. DeCosta.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 6th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, February 5th from 4-8 PM.
