Obituary

Robert L. Cusson Jr., age 63, of Groton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Pendleton Health and Rehabilitation Center, of pancreatic cancer.

He was a kindhearted man of great integrity, who spent his life in service of others. Some of Bob's great joys were music and dancing. He played guitar, was a DJ at local dance clubs in the 1980's, and became interested in country music and dance in the early 90's. He had an excellent sense of rhythm and his interest led to travel to Nashville for an appearance on a live country music and dance television show called The Wild Horse Salon. There were very few cowboys who looked better in a cowboy hat than Bob! Country music and dance remained a part of his life. Bob was also an avid bicyclist, loved kayaking and was a fearless rollerblader.

Bob was an Eagle Scout. He attended Saint Bernard High School and the University of New Haven. He was a carpenter and underwater carpenter at Electric Boat. He worked at Millstone Power Plant and other nuclear facilities. A skilled carpenter for over 40 years, he was a member of Carpenters Local Union 24, and had an impressive knowledge of all things to do with home building and construction.

Bob was predeceased by his mom Jacqueline Cusson, his wife Francine (Depot) Gagnon, and his stepson Billy. He is survived by his father, Robert Cusson Sr. of Mystic, and companion Priscilla Trudeau; his brother Ken (Linda) Cusson of Providence, R.I.; sisters, Deb Cusson of Maryland, Cheryl (Heidi) Cusson of Dayville, Renée (Al) Werling of Pawcatuck; and his truest best friend and 'person' Kathleen Harkins of Groton, whose love and dedication were steadfast throughout his life and illness. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Angel Adamson and her four children, Nicholas, Haley, Zachary and Chase; his nephews, Brooks Swinnerton, Domenic Cusson, Wyatt Werling; nieces, Emily Cusson and Phoebe Werling; and many wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins.

If Bob saw a person in need, he always pitched in and tried to help. If he was your friend, there was nothing that he would not do to assist you. The world was a better place because of him.

A Mass to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Center for Hospice Care of Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.
