Obituary

Paul Mathew McManus, 75, of Dartmouth died Monday, January 29, 2018 following a brief illness.

Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa (Houlihan) McManus; his son, Paul A. McManus and his wife Lynn of Middleboro; his daughter, Erin McManus Debien and her husband Mark of Palm City, FL;his grandchildren, Kate and Kara McManus, and Jake and Camryn Debien; his brother, Philip P. McManus and his wife Rosemary of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Fall River, the son of the late Philip McManus and Jennie McManus Wojtaszek, he spent most of his adult life in Dartmouth where he and his wife raised their two children. Paul was well known for his involvement in youth athletics, always coaching his children's teams. He received his Bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State College and his Master's degree from Providence College. He had a distinguished teaching career serving as a Social Studies teacher and Department Head at Somerset High School for almost 40 years. In addition to teaching, Paul had a successful career as a Realtor and worked for Anne Whiting Real Estate in South Dartmouth for many years. He was very involved in his church and served as a member of the Finance Council at St. Mary's Parish in South Dartmouth.

Paul's legacy includes a long career doing what he loved and a family to whom he dedicated his life. He will be remembered as a kind and mild-mannered gentleman who had an incredible work ethic and a devoted family. He adored his children and grandchildren and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them and attending their many sporting events.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital, bronchiectasis and cough research under the direction of Dr. Walter O'Donnell, 125 Nashua St, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
