Steven J. Gouveia, 65, of Tiverton, peacefully passed away following a long illness on Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. Anne's Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Virginia M. (Grace) Gouveia, they were married for 45 years.
Steve was born in Fall River, son of the late Jose M. “Jerry” and Genevieve “Jean” (Bollos) Gouveia. He grew up in Westport and resided in Tiverton for the past several years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated S&J Construction in Westport. He was a music lover and enjoyed playing his guitar and going on family vacations. He adored his sidekick Daisy, his loyal Yorkie that never left his side. Steve loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Pop".
Survivors along with his wife include his 3 children: Nicole Reis and her husband Derek of Tiverton, Elizabeth Swider and her husband Gregory of Fall River and Matthew S. Gouveia and his wife Gina of Monroe, CT; 3 grandchildren: Alexander, Nicholas and Molly; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at both the Tiverton Dialysis Center and St. Anne's Hospital for the compassionate care they gave to Steve.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Saturday, February 3, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of the Desert Church, Fall River at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
