Obituary

HOLLIS- Catherine L. Stanwood  - 82
Mom, Bup, Grandma Maine, & Gran

Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 with her family by her side.  She was born in Milbridge, Maine on March 4, 1935  to Alton & Lilo Stanwood.  Cathy was a retired AT & T telephone operator, an EMT with Standish Rescue, waitress, stitcher at Hanolds, and other various jobs throughout her life.  Cathy’s greatest joy was being with her family and friends.
Cathy was preceded by her parents, step-father Veral Ray, brother Robert Stanwood, beloved son Fred Curtis, and her namesake granddaughter Katie (Catherine) Beck.
Cathy always enjoyed being around people.  She never met a person that she didn’t want to feed.  The more the merrier.  She could whip up a meal for 2 – 25 people from a phone call to them walking through the door.  She would always make sure in a time of need she was the first one there with several dishes in her hand. She would say “when in doubt – cook”.  She was known to drop off lunch to her family while they were working.  She always had a full cookie jar, would make huge batches of whoopie pies, and there was no such thing as a small pasta salad.
Cathy enjoyed her sewing machine.  Her favorites were making Raggedy Ann dolls, stuffed animals, bathing suits, dresses, costumes for her grandchildren (from a phone call the night before they needed them) and baby blankets for all of her grandchildren.  One of her most enjoyable projects was making many bicentennial dresses and a flag that is in the time capsule at George E. Jack School in Standish.
Cathy traveled to many states with her grandchildren to watch them play sports. Although Cathy didn’t like sports, when it came her grandchildren she was there and their biggest fan.  Cathy was always competitive and would play games 24 hours a day if someone would play with her.  Some of her favorites were cribbage, scrabble and yahtzee but she was always up for any game.  She would never cut anyone slack,  no matter what age.  She taught you how to play hard and play by “THE RULES”!
Cathy thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent with any family and friends.
She had many, many dear friends that were family to her.  Many of them passed before her and she missed them dearly.  Three of her dearest friends Jeanette Ceasar, Judy Libby and Lillian Spiller are left to cherish her wonderful memories.

Left to carry on her legacy are;

            Siblings; Romona West, Donna Cirone, Leslie and his wife Kathleen

Fred’s son; and her oldest grandson Leif Sherman-Curtis.

Daughter; Lisa and her husband Butch Blades; her only granddaughter Kimberly and her husband Kurtis George; grandsons Kyle Beck, Robbie Beck and his wife Jodi, and Greg Beck and his wife Jenna.

Daughter; Lilo Libby and her life partner Dan Hodgkin; grandsons Ted (TJ) Libby Jr., Brandon Libby, Trevor (Tubby) Libby and his wife Kayla, and Dillan Libby.

Daughter; Lori and her Husband Randy Wood; grandsons Nick Wood, Nate Wood and his wife Lyndsay.

She also leaves behind the new generation of                                     20 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Old Robie Function Hall, 688 Gray Road Gorham, Maine 04038.
