Obituary

Moses Peabody of Auburn, NH (April 24, 1955 to January 24, 2018), died peacefully after a long illness with his family at his side. He was 62 years old. Moses studied in Moorhead, MN, and the Bowditch School in Salem, MA, and was the honored recipient of the Golden Hammer for excellence in carpentry. He attended Salem High School in Salem, MA and graduated from the Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, where he served as the vice-President of his senior class and excelled in wresting competitions, placing in multiple championships. Moses earned a Bachelor's Degree from Boston University with a major in Political Science and minor in Computer Science.

Moses participated in the development of automated library systems at CLSI in West Newton, MA; security systems for Wang Labs in Lowell, MA; and tele-conferencing software at PictureTel in Danvers, MA. In 2015 he retired from IBM in Westford, MA, where he served as Lotus System Administrator, and after 35 years assumed full-time management of his family's ancestral farm, dating back six generations to 1813.

Moses is remembered for his optimism, creativity, kindness, and singleness of purpose. He was called on over the years in many areas and accepted challenges both large and small as they arose. Moses loved hosting summer cookouts which always included beer, fireworks and lots of laughs: “Life is like living in a space suit – it is very awkward and clumsy. When you die you get to take the space suit off and run around [free].”

He is survived by his mother, Joanna Peabody of Auburn, NH; a brother, Samuel of Peabody, MA; three sisters: Sarah and her husband William Turnbaugh of Wakefield, RI; Persis and her husband Harry Robbins of Haverhill, MA; and Mary and her husband John Richards of Reading, MA. He was the proud uncle of one nephew, four nieces, and two great-nephews. He was predeceased by his father Berkley Peabody of Auburn, NH, and Salem, MA.

Services will be private. A celebration of Moses's life will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Moses Peabody may be made to the Auburn Historical Association, P. O. Box 6, 102 Hooksett Road, Auburn, NH 03031. www.auburnhistorical.org. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
