Giles Dognazzi, age 83, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Wingate of Norton, He was the beloved husband of Madeline A. (Cinquegrano) Dognazzi, to whom he was wed on September 19, 1964.
Born in Boston, MA on January 10, 1935, he was a loving son of the late Egidio and Julia (Murphy) Dognazzi.
Giles grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Boston Trade School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and upon being honorably discharged with the rank of Gunners Mate Third Class; he attended the Rhode Island School of Technology.
A resident of Mansfield for over 50 years, Mr. Dognazzi had been employed for twenty-five years at the Brockton Enterprise; retiring as a typesetter.
Giles was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a member of the Mansfield Fish & Game and the NRA. He loved spending time with his adoring family and fishing trips taken aboard the Captain John out of Plymouth Harbor. He also enjoyed hunting with his brother and engaging in projects around his home.
In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, he is survived by his devoted sons Christopher J. Dognazzi of Mansfield, Joseph M. Dognazzi and his wife Lynn of Raynham and Gregory E. Dognazzi of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Julia Bossio of Norwood, Thomas Dognazzi of Norwood, John Dognazzi of Georgia, Alma Giovaniello of Norwood, Kathleen Puccia of Norfolk, Claire Slayton of Canton, David Dognazzi of Georgia and the late Anthony Dognazzi. He was the cherished grandfather of Cassandra and Christian, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, February 2nd at 11:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 1st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
