Obituary

Lori J. Heaps, 63, of Westerly, RI passed peacefully at home on Jan. 25, 2018 surrounded by loved ones after having waged a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Lori was born on May 19, 1954 at the Anderson Hospital in Westerly to Norman and Jean Heaps, the first of three children. In addition to her parents she is survived by her beloved brother David and her sister Sally (Richard) Allen. She will be sadly missed by her best friends and companions Melanie Choquette and Renee Gentile, along with many others, but especially her fur babies Doogan, Levi and Winston.

Lori lived a full life and brought many gifts into the world including a love and talent for music and a true love and caring for others. She was a member of The American Guild of Organists and played at many different churches. She attended St Luke's Hospital, New Bedford, MA where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She went on to practice nursing for 40 years devoting her entire career to the Martin family at the Westerly Nursing Home. In the midst of her career, Lori found time for traveling (her favorites were trips to Hawaii, Florida, Canada, and Caribbean Islands), needlepoint, sewing, shopping and solitaire.

Friends and family are invited to attend a calling hour from 10:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday, January 30, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Services will conclude with burial in River Bend Cemetery, 117 Beach Street, Westerly RI.

In lieu of flowers, Lori requests that donations be made in her memory to The Women and Infants Development Foundation for Women and Infants Infusion Unit at 101 Dudley St., Providence, RI 02905 or to the RI Ovarian Cancer Alliance, PO Box 100004, Cranston, RI 02910.
