Sister Margaret Louise Ouellette, a Holy Union Sister, died at Longmeadow Nursing Home, Taunton, Massachusetts, on October 30, 2005. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Sister Margaret Louise was the daughter of the late Eugene L. Ouellette, Jr., and Margaret Casey Ouellette. She is survived by her sister, Jean M. Sullivan and brother-in-law Jack Sullivan, of Fort Myers, Florida, her nieces, nephews, grandniece and grandnephews, and her Holy Union Sisters.

Before entering the Holy Union Novitiate in Fall River, Massachusetts, Sister Margaret Louise graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy and from Thibodeau Business College, both in Fall River, Massachusetts. She had also studied at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a private secretary in human service organizations.

Sister Margaret Louise entered the Holy Union Novitiate in Fall River on February 22, 1956. She made First Profession of Vows on August 22, 1958, and her Perpetual Profession of Vows on August 22, 1964. Sister Peggy would have celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Holy Union Sister on February 22, 2006.

After entering the Holy Union Novitiate, Sister Margaret Louise continued her education at Sacred Hearts College, Fall River, and at Catholic Teachers’ College and Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. She received a B.A. in Business Education from Rivier College, in Nashua, New Hampshire. She continued her education by attending many professional workshops related to her work.

Her teaching ministry was always in Taunton, Massachusetts. She began her teaching at the former St. Mary’s High School which became Bishop Cassidy High School. Later, when Monsignor Coyle High School and Bishop Cassidy High merged into Coyle-Cassidy High School, Sister Margaret Louise remained on the faculty as Chairperson of the Business Department.

In addition to her teaching assignments, Sister Margaret Louise at different times was Moderator of Cassidy Mothers’ Club, the National Honor Society, Student Council, Future Secretaries Association and Women in Business, Coyle-Cassidy Fathers’ Club. She was a member of the Academic Board and the Discipline Board and was editor of UPDATE, the weekly school newsletter.

Sister Margaret Louise terminated her teaching career when she became Director of Development for the Holy Union Sisters. She resigned that position to become Secretary to the Provincial and served as Office Manager at 550 Rock Street. Later she became Secretary to the Holy Union Archivists in Fall River. Within Holy Union, Sister Margaret Louise served on many Province Committees.


Sister Margaret Louise held memberships in the following: National
Business Education Association, Massachusetts Business Education Association, New England Business Association, Catholic Business Education Association, and the Quota Club of Taunton. She was past president of the Quota Club and had held several other positions in that organization. Sister Margaret Louise served in various positions within the following organizations: VNA of Southeastern Massachusetts, Hospice of the Greater Taunton Area, Taunton Animal Shelter, Raynham Council on Aging, Old Colony Historical Society and she was a member of the Advisory Board of the Greater Taunton Mayor’s AIDS Consortium. She was a member of the choir and served on committees at St. Ann’s Parish in Raynham, Massachusetts.
