New Bedford– Maria (Andrade) Furtado, age 82 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Joao daCosta Furtado and the daughter of the late Maria Moniz (Pereira) and Joao Bernardo de Andrade.
Maria was born in St. Michael, Azores and lived in New Bedford since 1968.
She is survived by her children, George A. Furtado of Montreal, Lucy Leite, John A. Furtado and Manuel A. Furtado all of New Bedford, Bertha Melo of Dartmouth, Cecelia Alves of New Bedford, Sandy Dias of Fall River, Sue Furtado of Connecticut and Bobby Furtado of New Bedford; 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several siblings.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend her visiting hours on Friday evening, January 26, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be Saturday morning, January 27, 2018 beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Mt. Carmel Church at 8:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
