Maria L. (Andrade) Sousa, 85, of Westport passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose R. Sousa.
Mrs. Sousa was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Manuel and Maria A. (Correira) Andrade . Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress for a textile co. in New Bedford. She was a former member of and eucharistic minister at Mt. Carmel Church, New Bedford. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and very active in church activities. Mrs. Sousa was very devoted to her family especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son: Glenn J. Sousa and his wife Gelene of Westport; her 2 grandchildren: Megan Sousa and Aaron Sousa; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Manuel Andrade.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, January 29, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 P.M.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.
