Obituary

Ralph A. Bianchi passed away on January 22, 2018 at the age of 89.

Ralph battled cancer for the last 4 months of his life. Born in Medford, MA, he lived most of his life in Massachusetts but also resided in New Hampshire and Florida along with Irma M Bianchi, his wife of 65 years.

Ralph was born on November 11, 1928 in Medford. He was the youngest of four children with siblings: Guy, Phillis, Louis. He married Irma on June 22, 1952. He graduated high-school from Lawrence Academy, received his Bachelors at UVM, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Harvard University. He began his career at Arthur D. Little and went on to found three companies including JBF Scientific which developed the pre-eminent technology for oil spill recovery at sea. The Valdez Star was the largest oil recovery vessel at the time, weighing in at 357 tons. He was also a partner at House of Bianchi, a prestigious Boston-based wedding gown company founded by his mother, Columba Bianchi.

Ralph continued the family wine-making tradition that is carried on by his children. He retired to golfing, political commentary and enjoyed his last football game watching the Patriots beat the Jaguars for the AFC championship. He built eight houses in the course of his lifetime. Ralph loved life, food, and family and those that knew him never needed to mention his last name.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Irma; four children, Raimond, Robert, Leslie, and Richard; his eight grandchildren Kian Wilcox, Christie Buehler, Aaron, Ben, Maranda, Sommer, Brendan, and Bethany Bianchi. Ralph lived to see and enjoy his first great granddaughter, Bianca Buehler.
