Obituary

Rebekah (Becky) Thompson Murphy, 88, beloved and devoted wife of 58 years to Rev. Clarence C. Murphy Jr., went home to see and celebrate with her Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 22, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018, in Westside Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Lehn officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

A graduate of Tubman High School in Augusta, GA, she attended Augusta Junior College before meeting the love of her life on a blind date arranged by his aunt. While Clarence attended seminary, Becky continued her education by taking courses at Dallas Bible College and received her "PHT" from Dallas Theological Seminary ("putting husband through").

As a pastor's wife, she took on many duties, all with grace. She faithfully served as church pianist, Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, and women's group leader for the churches they served in Tulsa, OK (Grace Bible Church), Amarillo, TX (Amarillo Bible Church), and Augusta, GA (Druid Park Bible Church). A gracious hostess to countless missionaries, church members and friends, her table always had room for one more and the most delicious homecooked meal waiting. With coaching, counseling, and constant prayer, she blessed the lives of those in need.

A loving mother, grandmother, confidante and friend, Becky never met a stranger. To know her was to love her. She lived a life of service and in service to others. She showed everyone the love of Jesus and all who knew her felt richer for the privilege.

She is survived by her children, a daughter, Ruth Sherman and husband, William of Augusta; a son, David Murphy of Augusta; two granddaughters, Michelle Shetty and husband Niraj of Atlanta, GA and Ashley Harwell and husband, Chris of Roswell, GA; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Collin Harwell and Audrey Shetty; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clarence C. Murphy Jr. and her brother, Josiah Thompson.

If so desired, memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church of Martinez, GA, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Fellowship Christian School of Roswell, GA.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 5 - 7 PM at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue.
