Richard “Dick” P. Thompson, 61, a lifelong resident of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22. He was the beloved father of Corey Thompson of Stoughton. He was one of seven children born to the late John “Jack” G. Thompson and Rose M. (Lang)Thompson.
Dick was born January 27, 1956, in New Brunswick, New Jersey and attended St. Peter’s Grammar School there. In 1968, his family moved to Hingham where he graduated from Hingham High School. He also attended Massasoit Community College. He moved to Franklin after he married his former wife and friend, Donna (Swanson) Thompson.
He worked as a maintenance technician for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Grafton and Worcester. He also worked part-time for TLC Janitorial in Franklin.
He spent much of his free time with his son Corey either watching football, playing hockey in the basement, ice skating, and most importantly, hanging out with Dick’s family.
He will be remembered for his smiling face and his thoughtfulness. He was always stepping up to help his brothers and sisters with work on their houses or vehicles. While his mom was alive, he went to her house regularly to do any repair work needed.
What we remember best about Dick was as a teenager, he loved rock and roll and took guitar lessons to mimic his favorite bands such as KISS. He loved to go camping with his son Corey. He especially enjoyed his golf outings with his dad, his brother Ray and later with his son.
As Corey grew up in Franklin, Dick with Corey would participate in St. Mary’s CCD events, school activities, scouting, 4th of July events and St. Rocco’s Feast. He was also seen frequently at Ficco’s as part of a bowling league or at any of the ponds in Franklin ice skating or playing hockey.
He is survived by his son Corey Thompson of Stoughton, his three sisters, Judy Thompson and her partner Sarah Little of Wisconsin, Barbara Crowley and her husband Christopher of North Attleboro, Jacqueline Dowding and her husband Michael of Millis, as well, as his late sister Pamela Pilsmaker formerly of Boxford and her husband Jeff. He is also survived by two brother’s John “Jack” Thompson and his partner George Economou of Chelmsford, and Raymond Thompson and his wife Sue of Cohasset.
He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews including, Jennifer, Jonathan, Amanda, Julia, Jack, Sarah, Emily and Matthew.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation Monday, January 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin at 10:00.
