Obituary

Our mom, Ramona Acosta Magdaleno, was born on March 12, 1928 to Ignacio and Dominga Acosta in Los Angeles, California. In 1929, mom and her family moved from the Los Angeles area to Saticoy, California. There, mom lived her life with her parents and siblings, Delores (Dee), Virginia (China) and, Manuel Acosta (Porky), all who predeceased her.
Mom attended the local school proudly graduating from the 8th grade. She worked as a food processor for 30+ years, having worked for Smucker's, Kern Foods, The Somis Nut House and The Heublein Corporation. She enjoyed her work and made many friends throughout her career.
She was blessed with four children: MaryAnn Garcia (Husband Tony), Mart Monzon (Husband Ben), Ruben and Joseph. Mom truly loved her children and showed that love in a variety of ways. She cooked, canned fruits/vegetables, made her jams and jellies. She showed each of us compassion, respect and provided us with a high level of honesty and integrity, she was very giving and always willing to help anyone. Mom spent a lot of time with her kids when she was not working and relished every moment. Her grandchildren were her precious treasures. With her daughters working, mom was able to care for each one of her grandchildren. She displayed her talents in the garden where she cared for her roses, her fruit trees, and her ever-present chili plants. She crocheted scarves, dresses, ponchos and hats for each of her girls. Every item made was carefully crafted to be worn by her kids or her grand kids. She doted on her grandkids and encouraged them to “be your best”. One of her last memories was her conversation with her grandson AJ who came to “show off” his brand new baby. She carefully listened to AJ as he “bragged” on his newborn and with precision; she gave him encouraging advice in caring for his son.
At last count, the grandkids are: Kathi Guzman, Ramona Morales (husband Jess), Christina Monzon Guzman, Archie Monzon and Bryan Monzon. Her great grandkids are: Makenna, Madison, AJ, Gloria, Sergio, Tony, Tommy and Timmy. Her great, great grandkids are: James, Aurora, Makenzie and Eon.
Mom was a very independent woman. She displayed that strength in her daily activities, in making her business decisions and in raising her kids and her grand kids. She continued her display of strength in requesting that she spend her last days at her home in Saticoy. With each day, the days became more difficult but she didn’t complain. She spent her last day falling into a deep sleep and left peacefully, at home early morning on January 23rd with her son, Ruben and her granddaughter, Christina, who were by her side to feel the last beats of her heart.
The family would like to extend their gratitude in the assistance provided by Vitas Healthcare of Camarillo, particularly, Nurse Heather, Nurse Carlotta, Dr. Aline, SW Yelda and Health Aide Brenda. Others who helped with Mom’s care were Anna and Rosa who provided her with companionship.
Lastly, to Cousins Jim and Maria Elena Acosta who were there to provide a huge support to Mom and her kids. To the two of them, words cannot express the appreciation we have for you. Thank you!
“See you later Mom”!
