Obituary

CHICOPEE – Claire J. (Fontaine) Dugre, 90, a lifelong resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, January 22, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee on April 1, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late Alcide and Bertha (Tanguay) Fontaine. Claire was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Saint Joan of Arc School in Chicopee and Chicopee High School, and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was a dedicated and compassionate homemaker to her loving family as her beloved husband, Charlie, and her family tended to their family restaurant, The Lucky Strike in Aldenville. She enjoyed sewing and crocheted many beautiful afghans for her grandchildren. Her life centered around her family and her home in Aldenville. As the matriarch of her family, she guided her children and grandchildren with a gentle hand, a warm heart and sound advice. Throughout her life, Claire enjoyed “interrogating” them to keep herself abreast of current affairs and family happenings. She showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Clement R. “Charlie” Dugre. They were married on May 13, 1950 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Michelle Roy and her husband, Armand, of West Suffield, CT, Marc Dugre and his wife, Nancy, of Chicopee and Michael Dugre and his wife, Cheryl, of Holyoke; her 11 cherished grandchildren and eight cherished great-grandchildren who will all deeply miss their “Memere”; her two dear brothers, Leonard Fontaine of Chicopee and Edward Fontaine of Connecticut; her dear sister, Pauline Bourque of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Rita Brougham and her husband, Harry, of Belchertown; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dugre and Fontaine families. In addition to her beloved parents, she was also predeceased by her four dear brothers, Rene, Paul, Donald and Gerald Fontaine; and her three dear sisters, Lorraine Gosselin, Rita Rougeau and Doris Carney. Her Funeral will be held on Monday morning, January 29, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
