Jessie K. Smith, 98, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at The Oaks Nursing Home on Sunday January 21, 2018.
Born in Boston on October 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James S. Morgan and Jessie K. (Oetegenn) Morgan. She graduated from South Boston High School in 1937 and subsequently worked as a secretary at the Boston Army Base/Counterintelligence Division.
She married her beloved late husband Edwin J. Smith on November 18, 1944 in New Bedford shortly after his honorable discharge from the Army. After living in New Bedford and Quincy for short periods of time, the family moved to Dartmouth in 1956.
Her family was the center of her life; she was truly a loving, kind, caring wife, mother, sister, Nana, and aunt.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessie K. Smith; her daughter, Leslie J. Lamarche and her husband Steven, and her son Walter R. Smith and his wife Jane. She is also survived by her four loving grandchildren, Edward R. Smith and his wife Catherine, Karen Smith Kahrl and her husband Benjamin, Andrew J. Smith and his wife Sara, and Christopher S. Lamarche and his wife Annie. She especially loved her eight great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Morgan, Hudson, Ella, Lily, Rose, Nathan, and Benjamin.
She is also survived by her brother, James A. Morgan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her other five siblings, now deceased, were Margaret Morgan, Gladys Schuldt, Emily Murphy, Muriel MacDonald, and William Morgan.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of the caregivers at the Oaks for the wonderful, compassionate care they gave to our Mom/Nana.
Her visitation will be held on Wednesday January 24th from 10:30 AM - 12 Noon at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her funeral service at 12 Noon.
