It is with great sadness that the family of Frank J. Olbrys announces his passing at age 85 on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Carney Hospital.
Frank is lovingly survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, and his four children and their spouses Joseph Olbrys (Barbara), Karen Milo (David), Anne Olbrys and James Olbrys. Frank will also be remembered by his five granddaughters Kariane Gentry, Amanda Olbrys, Jillian Olbrys, Megan Olbrys, and Ava Milo, his only remaining sister Lillian Peluso, as well as his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A life-long resident of Hyde Park, Massachusetts Frank attended the Henry Grew School and then graduated from Hyde Park High School. Frank entered military service in 1952 serving the United States Army Honorably for two years of active duty with the 87th Infantry at Fort Riley Kansas and later at Fort Carson, Colorado achieving the rank of Sargent and the National Defense Service Medal.
After returning from military service and a stint with Donnelley’s Manufacturing, he embarked upon a distinguished and proud 38 year career with the City of Boston Police Department (06/24/1959 – 06/30/1997) receiving commendations from the City of Boston Police Department, Dorchester Housing Authority,Dorchester United Neighborhood Associations, Kiwanis Club, American Legion, City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Upon retirement from the Boston Police Department Frank continued his public service as Director of Security for the Old Colony Police Department at the Boston Bowl/Ramada and Comfort Inn complex in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Later he proudly became a member of the security detail at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library serving until late 2017.
A proud catholic polish American he was a parishioner at St Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Hyde Park and later St Anne’s in Readville active with the Readville Seniors and Mil-Par Seniors groups. He served with honor for many years as the Commodore of the Columbia Yacht Club in South Boston, MA. Frank leaves behind his current Presidency of the Retired Boston Police Officer’s Association. An avid woodworker, photographer and mentor he will be sorely missed.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 3-9pm. Funeral from the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 25 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anne Church, Readville at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
