Rosemary Griffin, 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mahan officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Ms. Griffin was born July 20, 1940, in Thomasville, Georgia, to the late C. W. Yancey and Mary Lamar “Dickey” Ross Yancey. She lived in the community most of her life. She graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1958 and attended South Georgia College. Ms. Griffin was a dedicated, hardworking employee of Deep South for years. Ms. Griffin’s pride and joy was her son Paul. She was a doting mother who worked tirelessly to provide him with a wonderful life, even helping to care for him after his motorcycle wreck in 1984. She became lovingly referred to as “Mema” when her grandson, Duston was born in 1982 followed by her grandson, Garrett in 1984. Ms. Griffin was a devoted grandmother to her two grandsons, and her love for them showed in all she did. She enjoyed spoiling them and she was their biggest supporter, never missing a sporting event, awards ceremony, school function or birthday party. Ms. Griffin never met a stranger and loved to talk to others. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and would often stop by LifeCare Nursing Home with her dog simply to brighten the day of the residents. Ms. Griffin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
She is survived by a son, Paul Griffin of Fitzgerald; two grandsons: Duston Griffin & Lane of Blackshear and Garrett Griffin & Abby of Ocilla and great- grandchildren: Brody Griffin, Katie Griffin, Rhett Griffin, Cole Griffin and Bo Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a loyal four-legged companion of 15 years, Pug.
