Brenda M. Gates, 77, died Saturday, January 20th in the All American Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Hollis J. Gates. They had been married for forty-one years.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Longley) Booth. She had lived in Warwick previously living in Ocean Ridge, FL and Smithfield. She had retired from State service as an Executive Secretary at CCRI at the Flanagan Campus. She had also worked with RI College and the Henry Barnard School both in Providence, as well as the St. Aloysius Home.
Brenda enjoyed being a mother and spending time with her family. She was known to shuttle her children and grandchildren to their sporting events. She was their biggest fan and scorekeeper. She loved to dine out with her friends and spent time relaxing with her cat Irena.
She leaves her sons, Michael H. Gates and his wife Brenda of Cranston and Hollis J. Gates and his wife Katie of Warwick, her grandchildren, Gianna, Michael Jr., and Tyler Hollis and great-grandmother to Brielle Giuliana. She leaves a sister, Barbara Vernava and her husband Alvah of Scituate. She was the sister-in-law of Cheryl Jackson of Johnston and Allan Gates of Attleboro, MA.
Her funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Foundation and mailed to Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Road, Building C, Suite 104, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
