Madleen Shoukry Hannah Nashed was born on February 23, 1943 in Cairo Egypt to Marie Shoukry Hanna and Shoukry Hanna.. She lived in Egypt for the first 29 years of her life where she attended college at Ein Shams University and worked in Banking. She met her Husband, Samir Mourad Nashed and they were wed on April 9th, 1972. Madleen and Samir spent most of their lives together in Syracuse, New York where they raised their three girls Nancy, Neveen and Nagwa. They built an amazing life for their family and they surrounded themselves with wonderful friends, neighbors and family/friends from the church.
Madleen was a stay-at-home mom for the early years of her children’s lives where she participated in her their school activities, Girl Scouts, dance, and helped out as a lunch lady at times. She was an amazing cook, and friends and family in Syracuse knew her for her delicious baklava that she would often gift to people during the holidays. When her children got older, she worked as a bank teller at KeyBank in Liverpool New York for many years. She also worked the front desk at Onondaga Community BOCES in Liverpool, New York where she would often greet many of the special needs children and secretly give them candy when they came by her desk. Years following, she worked at Sam's club as a food sample associate where she greeted people and handed out food samples. My dad would often visit her for a free lunch. Madleen loved to work because she got to interact with so many people. She loved people, to talk to people and learn about people. She had a very unique gift of connecting with anyone she came across and making them feel close to her. Her smile could light up any room, and her heart, although physically weak, was strong in love.
In the last 2 1/2 years, Madleen resided in Woburn, Massachusetts with her daughter Neveen Wang, her husband Benjamin and their children Laila and Louis. During this time, she was able to travel to her homeland, Cairo Egypt, where she spent time with her siblings and her mother again after many years. She was able to go parasailing, take cruises on the Nile, sit on the beach on the beautiful Mediterranean, eat her favorite foods, and most importantly reconnect with her amazing family. When she was back home in Woburn from her journeys, she would FaceTime with her family in Egypt at least once a day. They adored her, and she adored them.
Madleen attended dialysis three times a week at Davita Dialysis in Woburn. She truly loved the people that work there and often talked about their care for her. She would go every morning in a cab driven by such caring people and she would take a bus home. The bus driver would hold her hand and walk her to the front door every day. She also had a nurse and social worker from Minuteman Senior Services come and check on her, and to help her with anything she needed. She referred to all of these people as her "friends", and she loved them all.
Madleen belonged to the Coptic Orthodox faith. She loved the church and she loved God, often doing His work here on earth. Madleen was loved by all who knew her. She touched many hearts and many lives in her 74 years of life on earth.
