Obituary

CHICOPEE – Deborah “Debbie” A. (Benson) Mykytiuk, 61, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 18, 2018. She passed peacefully into Eternal Life from her home surrounded by all the memories that she loved and treasured. Born October 30, 1956 in Yuma, Arizona, she was a beloved daughter of the late George A. Benson, Sr. and Ann M. (Haley) Benson. In 1963, Debbie moved to Chicopee, where she attended grade school and graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School. She attended Holyoke Community College and was later employed by Proctor & Gamble. Those who knew Debbie, knew what a warm, compassionate and spirited woman she was, who always went out of her way to help others – no matter what. As an avid animal lover, Debbie often cared for injured and stray animals, alongside her dear dog Zoey. There was nothing more important to Debbie than loving and showing her love for her cherished daughter, Jessica. Debbie is survived by her loving daughter, Jessica Mykytiuk and her husband, Rok Dedic, of Alexandria, VA; her eight dear siblings, George Benson, Jr. and his wife, Patsy, of Madison, MS, Brenda Thorne and her husband, Brian, of Sun Lakes, AZ, Paul Benson and his wife, Kenda, of Belchertown, MA, Drew Benson of Chicopee, MA, David Benson and his wife, Deborah, of Somerville, SC, Francis Benson and Patricia Benson, both of Chicopee, MA, and Isabelle Knoth and her husband, Wayne, of Sebastian, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear brother, John J. “Benny” Benson. Debbie’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
