Meredith – Edwin David Compton, 86, of 22 Eaton Avenue, passed away at Golden View Retreat, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was preceded in death by his bride, Martha A. (Highet) Compton.
Edwin was born on December 14, 1931, in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late Clarence and Marjorie (MacEachern) Compton. Edwin spent his years living in Massachusetts, Virginia, and New Hampshire. Edwin worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker all of his life. Edwin will be remembered for his love of painting, crossword puzzles, the Red Sox, the “Pats”, jazz, dancing and cribbage. Edwin was the Elks state cribbage champion in 1985. He enjoyed making his stuffed tomatoes and spaghetti sauce and baking for family gatherings.
Survivors include his sons Doug Compton and wife Karen of VA and Scott Compton and his wife Laurie of Meredith, NH., David Compton and his partner, Deb, of MA; Brian Compton and his wife, Carolyn, of MA; Dana Donovan and his wife, Vicki, of FL; and daughters, Diane Compton of Laconia, NH, Denise McKim and her husband, Jim, Belmont, NH; Darlene Donovan of FL; his sisters, Dawn Libby and her husband, Linton of RI and Ann Posluszny and her husband, Cortland of MA; and brother in law, Jim Highet and his wife, Lenore, of FL.; his furry companion, Lily, and his 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
For those who wish the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Golden View “The Retreat”, 19 NH Route 104, Meredith, NH 03253. The staff was extremely accommodating, professional and, most of all, compassionate.
There will be no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
