Susan Katherine Evans of Watertown formerly of Newton Corner, died on Thursday October 27th at the Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge at the age of 42. Born in Boston Susan grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Cornell College in Mt Vernon Iowa and late received her Masters Degree in Theological Studies at Union College in New York. For many years she was a fund raiser for homeless and battered women’s shelters in the Greater Boston area. Susan was very active in her church, the First Baptist Church in Newton Centre. She served as Deacon, a member of the Vestry and held numerous positions and served on many committees. Susan was the former wife of Ajith Dissanayake , and loving mother of Alexandra Elizabeth Dissanayake and Zoe Katherine Dissanayake all of Newton. Daughter of Dennis Evans of Scottsdale, AZ and Ruth (Turnbull) Evans of Madison, WI. Sister of John Evans of San Diego, CA and Andrew Evans of Marquette, MI. Other family members include David and Lisa Dissanayake, and Brenda and Jayanti Forsythe. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, corner of Beacon St. and Centre St. in Newton Centre on Tuesday November 1st at 4:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers memorials in Susan’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 848 Beacon St. Newton MA 02459.
