Rowena J. (Panciera) DiMartino, age 95, of Mystic, passed away on Wednesday, January 17. 2018. She was the wife of the late Marco J. DiMartino. Rowena was born July 7, 1922, daughter of the late Santina and John B. Panciera. Rowena was a lifetime resident at 12 Ivy Road, Mystic, CT. She was also predeceased by her brothers Arthur, Ernest, Matthew and Raymond Panciera.
Rowena graduated from Broadway Elementary School and Stonington High School. She was also a graduate of The Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. For over 40 years she was the office nurse for Dr. Kathryn Verie Pugh of New London, CT. She was an active member of the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing Alumni Association. Rowena was an avid gardener and enjoyed the pleasure of cooking from the many of recipes she accumulated through the years. Her family was most important to her and she enjoyed entertaining both family and friends at her home.
She is survived by her children Mark and his wife Sally DiMartino of Somerville, MA , Susan and her husband Matthew Dowling of Noank, CT, Marla Durling of Milford, CT, Eric DiMartino and wife Erin Eberhardt of West Haven, CT, and grandchildren Austin, Michael and Haley. She was also Auntie to Eleanor Panciera Hohenthal, Sandra Panciera Jimemez, Kenneth, Raymond and John Panciera. Her nephews Arthur Franklin Panciera, Robert Ernest Panciera and neice Joyce Panciera Pippo predeceased her.
In recent years she was a resident of Fairview Odd Fellows Home in Groton, CT, where she received loving care of dedicated staff members.
There will be no calling hours and a private family graveside service will be held at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. A gathering for family and friends will be planned for this spring when we can come together to celebrate Rowena's life.
