Obituary

Phyllis J Hull
…former Wakefield Selectman
WAKEFIELD - Mrs. Phyllis J. (Marange) Hull, a well known and respected member of the Wakefield community, died peacefully with her family at her side at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington on Tuesday, January 16, the result of a fall and grievous injury suffered in her home on Saturday, January 6. She was the beloved wife of John Hull, who died in 1975.
Phyllis was born in Boston, one of four children of the late Joseph E. and Stella Rose (Finochietti) Marange, raised in Somerville, and graduated from Somerville High School. After her marriage, she and John moved to Wakefield, and summered at their lake-house in Harrison ME.
Phyllis worked as a manager at Iotron in Bedford, and later as Personnel Director at MegaPulse also in Bedford. Since her retirement, she worked part time as a clerk and operator at Wakefield Savings Bank.
Phyllis loved the Town of Wakefield, and in her mid and later years was elected to the Board Of Selectmen, where she served multiple terms. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit, unwillingness to compromise, and fearless outspoken positions on all matters of Wakefield. Phyllis’ deep love for her country was evident when she began a repair of the Veteran’s Memorial in Wakefield Center, which bloomed into a complete replacement and beautification of the Memorial, all financed through private donations and fundraisers, mostly organized by her and her dearest friends. Phyllis was a passionate Republican, and had the honor of meeting both State and National office holders throughout her long tenure as selectwoman.
Phyllis’ love for her Country and her Town was only matched by her love of God. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Florence, and had worked tirelessly her entire life to support the Parish. She was a woman of great faith and strength, and maintained her poise and youthful appearance well into her senior years. Her actual age will always remain a closely guarded secret.
She leaves her daughter, Diane Towle-Ferguson and her husband, Joseph Ferguson of Tewksbury; two grandsons, John Towle and his wife Teresa Falco-Towle of Lowell, and Benjamin Towle of Tewksbury; her sisters, Maria DiCiaccio of Tewksbury and Anne Rich of L.V., NV; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her brother Joseph Marange.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 20th at 10:00am at St. Florence Church, 47 Butler St. Wakefield. Burial at Forest Glade Cemetery will be private. At Phyllis’ insistence, visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorials to World War II Memorial c/o Town of Wakefield, 1 Layfayette St., Wakefield, MA 01880 will be appreciated. visit: www.tewksburyfuneralhome.com
