TEWKSBURY - Robert P. Morris, age 68, a retired Tewksbury Firefighter and well known
member of the community, died Saturday morning, Oct. 29, in Dillon S.C. after suffering an
apparent heart attack, while driving toward his winter home in Long Boat Key, Fla. He was with
his wife, Mary Louise (Regan) Morris, with whom he had celebrated a 43rd wedding anniversary
this past June 30th.
He was born in Arlington, August 29, 1937, a son of the late John T. Morris and Eileen
(Barnacle) Morris. He was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. He
had resided in Tewksbury for the last 43 years.
In the late 1950's, and early 1960's he served in the Army Reserves.
He began his career with the Tewksbury Fire Department Call Firefighter on Dec. 19, 1967. He
was appointed to the job of Permanent Firefighter on October 8, 1976, and named
Firefighter/EMT on_May 21, 1977. He retired from the department on March 17, 1993. He
had a parallel career as a Registered Land Surveyor, and operated his own surveying company
throughout the Merrimack Valley.
He was a member of the International Association of Firefighter’s Union, Local 1647, a
communicant of St. William’s Church, and a former member of the Tewksbury Lions Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Peter Morris and his wife
Michelle (O’Rourke) of Winnetka, IL, R. Paul Morris and his wife Diane (Doucette) of
Tewksbury; two brothers and a sister-in-law, retired Firefighter and former Town Selectman
Richard P. Morris of Tewksbury, Edward Morris and his wife Carmen of CA; a sister, Rita Bent
of Arlington; two brothers-in-law, Bill Grayson of FL, and Harry Ryerson of Arlington; seven
grandchildren, triplets Catherine, Colin and Megan Morris, Molly Morris, and Christina, Timothy
and Kyle Morris; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Donald Morris, Eileen Grayson, Anne Ryerson and John Morris.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Nov. 3, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment with Fire Department and Army Honors was at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Hospice of Cape Cod, 270
