Thomas D. O’Rourke, longtime Provincetown resident died at home Wednesday, January 10, 2018. He was 71.
Born in Lowell, the son of the late Thomas P. and Arlene [Davis] O’Rourke, he was a graduate of Chelmsford High School. Tom was affectionately known as ‘Salty’ to his family and friends.
Soon after graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career, where he did a major promotion for the Gant shirt company. After several years in New York, he moved back to Boston and became involved in the hospitality industry. He was a waiter, maître d' and bartender at several well-known Boston establishments.
Early in the 1980’s he moved to Provincetown. He was a chef at the former Fat Jack’s Restaurant and was known as an excellent breakfast cook at the Landmark Restaurant and stayed on when it became Toomey’s. He also worked in the Public Works Department for the Town of Provincetown.
Upon retirement, he spent many hours on the benches in front of town hall chatting with his many friends.
Tom is survived by sisters Sharon Davidson and Maura Ryder, both of Lowell; and Pamela Callahan and her husband Jack of Port Charlotte, FL. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces and nephews, as well as many, many friends. He was predeceased by his friend and his fathers companion of 40 years, Florence Moran.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Tom at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at St Peter the Apostle Church, Prince St, Provincetown. Family and friends are invited to attend.
