Carl Ellis Jones, 79, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at his residence.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Jones was born July 5, 1938, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Wallace & Ina Britt Jones. He moved to New York where he worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway and Niagara Falls Power Project. It was in New York where he met his future bride, Beatrice “Bea” Jones. In 1961 he returned to Fitzgerald from Columbia, Alabama. After moving back to the community, Mr. Jones farmed and retired with 40 years of service as a maintenance supervisor for Elixir Industries. He was a member of Pine Level Lodge #353 F.&A.M. Mr. Jones was a member and helped to organize the South Georgia Touring Club and was co-founder of the Motorcycle Rally which had a presence at the Sweet Potato Festival in Ocilla for 25 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela & Ken Thompson of Chula; a daughter-in-law: Joyce Jones of Hahira; grandchildren: Jennifer Thompson, Julie & Mike Steves, Lauren Jones and Catherine Jones; great-grandchildren: Keira Smith, Kinley Smith, Ava Steves, Ethan Steves, Brody Moffitt, Marlee Carpenter and Nathan Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice “Bea” Jones; two sons, Carlton Ellis Jones and Randall Lewis Jones; a daughter, Regina Lynn Jones; three brothers: Leroy Jones, J. W. Jones and Charles Jones; and a sister, Betty Lou Jones.
