Darwin Walker, Sr., 77, of Enigma passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Enigma Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Jones officiating. Mr. Walker will be laid to rest at Enigma Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 15, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Walker will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Obie Darrell, Larry Crumley, Bentley Barrentine, Bobby Metts, LaDon Pearson, Terry Hogan, Alton Varnadore and Andy Varnadore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Julius Brown, B. J. Drew, Eddie Greene, Herman Hannon, Denny Smith, John Dumas, David Powers, Kage Dees, Frank Hill, Willie Frank Hughes, Addie Cook, Hitten Gann, Don Copeland, Charlie Warren and Eunice Wright.
Born September 30, 1940 in Enigma, Mr. Walker was the son of the late John Alvin Walker and Christine Griffin Walker. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alvin Dickson Walker. He was retired from UPS and owned Walker’s Grocery in Enigma. He loved to fish and spend time with his family.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Dawn Dickson Walker of Enigma; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny Darwin Jr. and Melissa Walker of Enigma and Derrick and Nicole Walker of Alapaha; one daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Deanna Walker Gibbs and Rickey Gibbs of Adel; six grandchildren, Corey Gibbs, Tara Gibbs, Kristy Walker, Gage Walker, Daniel Walker and Allie Walker; and one great-grandchild, Kaizleigh Walker.
