Helen J. “Jean” Wright, 17-year resident of Oakwood, Georgia passed peacefully in her home in the early Sunday hours of December 17, 2017, in the loving care of family.
Memorial services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, January 14, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald.
Jean was born November 30, 1933 in Fargo, North Dakota. She also loved and enjoyed her family in Towner and Minot, ND including her beloved step-sister Mary “Mickey” Theros, eventually of Washington State.
Jean (Helen Suchor Bryan) and Howard (Gillis H.) Wright were wed in Minot, ND in 1954, and there made a home. Jean, built a loving relationship with Howard’s daughter, Diane. Jean worked as a photographer’s assistant with, Elite Studio in Minot. She ultimately left the studio to become a full-time Mom in 1960, having a Son, Michael & Daughter, Mary, in 1962. Several years later, Diane wed Rodney Halvorson and established her own family in Minnesota. After the death of Jean’s Mother, Emma Suchor Magers, Jean, Howard, Mike & Mary moved to Warner Robins, Georgia, to be closer to Howard’s Mother, Maybelle, Sister, Sybil and her husband. Jean fell in love with as was loved in return by her new Southern Family - a family that stretched from Savannah, in the East to Alabama, to the West
During this time, Jean and Howard made their home in Warner Robins, Jean worked in Personnel at Robins Air Force Base, until her retirement.
In 2001, after 47 years of marriage, Jean was preceded into the presence of the Lord by her beloved Howard. Soon after, Jean moved to Oakwood, where her care and needs were lovingly and constantly attended by a cherished and loving daughter, Mary.
Jean is survived by: Daughter, Mary; Son, Michael, his wife Martha, their daughters Morgan and Madison, of Georgia; Cherished step-daughter, Diane Halvorson, her Husband Rodney, and their two daughters: Deanna Nelson, her husband Todd, their children Matthew, Christopher, Alexander & Karina and Andrea Matson, her husband Jeff and their son Nico – all of Minnesota.
Jean will be remembered as a fierce friend and ally; someone ready to lend a sympathetic ear and extend a warm hug; possessing a love for her Lord and for her family & friends. Time took away her great love of cooking for people – but not the happy memory of all manner of wonderful meals and an ever-expanding repertoire of sweet and delicious baked treats - especially at the Christmastime. If Heaven has a baking department, it would not surprise me to one day learn that by the evening of December 17th, she was on her 10th or 20th batch of Christmas cookies – while wishing her sister Micky a Happy 93rd Birthday!
She took joy in bringing joy. Jean always chose her kids, family, and others above herself. The family finds peace in the knowledge that Jean’s spirit is free of her failing, earthly bonds. She now enjoys the fellowship and re-acquaintance of friends & family gone before and - most wonderfully- enveloping peace and love in the embrace of the Savior.
