Jeanette Howell Woods, April 13, 1943-January 10, 2018, Savannah, GA
Passed away from natural causes with family by her side. She was born the third eldest child of 12 in Ocilla, GA to the late Jesse Jackson Howell, Sr. and Mary Ella Lindsey. Graduated from Irwin County High School where she lettered all four years in basketball.
Moved to Savannah where she began her 30-year career with CSX Transportation Railroad. Well known for her quick wit and direct, to-the-point personality, Jeanette was not only admired but greatly respected by everyone who knew her. After retiring in Jacksonville, FL, she decided to settle back in Savannah.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Franklin Stokely of Hilton Head, SC; daughter, Sherry Lynn Sikes and husband Randy of Savannah, GA; son, Thomas Alan Stokely and wife Amanda of Sunderland, MD; daughter, April Dette Paysse and husband John of Hanford, CA; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Aryn, Elizabeth, Michelle, Thomas, Jr., Patricia; four great-grandchildren, Aradith, Jay, Luke, Skylar; 10 siblings, Jesse Howell, Jr. and wife Carol of Fitzgerald, GA; DeLois Handley and husband Dwight of Ocilla, GA; Jimmy Howell, Sr. and his late wife Shawn of Fitzgerald, GA; Laverne Tucker and husband Joe of Alapaha, GA; Sammy Howell and wife Gail of Fitzgerald, GA; Lamar Howell and wife Rhonda of Tifton, GA; Donnie Howell and wife Debbie of Fitzgerald, GA; Ronnie Howell and wife Dianne of Warner Robbins, GA; Dean Howell, Sr. of Lake City, FL; Dianne Kinnett and husband Jimmy of Leesburg, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Wayne Howell.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church, 314 Fitzgerald Hwy, Ocilla, GA with the Rev. Tracy Clements officiating. Interment will follow in New Valley Grove Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Sunday.
