Harold Walker, 82, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services will he held 2 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Bethel Baptist Church, in Ocilla, with the Rev. Tracy Clements and the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. officiating. Josh Drawdy will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Riverbend Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Mr. Walker was born March 9, 1935, in Wray, Georgia, to the late Talmadge & Edna Griffin Walker. He lived in the community all of his life and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 10 years during the Korean and Vietnam War eras. Mr. Walker was a former employee at Forstman, formerly JP Stevens, in Tifton as a weave machine operator and a mechanic. He also worked at Irwin Manufacturing, in Ocilla, in the cutting room as an embroidery machine mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite pastimes were reading and studying his Bible and eating Dairy Queen Reese’s Blizzard. Mr. Walker was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, former treasurer and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Viviette Roberts Walker of Ocilla; daughters: Vickie & Dale Drawdy of Ocilla, Wanda Walker of Abbeville and Zinda & Nelson Johnson of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren: Laura & John Goodman, Tonya & Keith McLaughlin, Josh & Suree Drawdy, Jeremy & Hailey Drawdy, Coty Patrick and Teddi Patrick; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Betty & Loren Hendley of Ocilla and Marilyn & Richard Seagroves of Midway and a daughter-in-law: Sherry Walker of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert H. “Bobby” Walker; three brothers: J.W. Walker, Jack Walker and Jimmy Walker; two sisters: Dorothy Sirmans and Helen Harris.
