Obituary

Roger Armand Boissonneault, 90, passed away January 3, 2018 at his home in Hooksett after a long battle with Parkinson’s. He was born November 25, 1927 in Manchester, the son of Irenee and Lea (Beaulieu) Boissonneault. His legal name was Joseph Armand Roger Boissonneault, but his Mom called him Roger, and that’s what stuck. He grew up on Kearsarge Street on the West side of Manchester and lived his life in Manchester, Goffstown, and finally Hooksett.
Roger attended St Joseph’s High School for Boys in Manchester. He also attended NH College of Accounting and Commerce where he earned his accounting certification.
He married Theresa Samson in 1951 and fathered four children: Ronnie, Dennis, Elaine and Donna.
Roger was drafted and served in the US Army twice during WWII and Korea, serving State-side both times.
Roger was a devout Catholic and very involved in parish council and was a member of the Catholic War Vets.
He opened a cobbler shop and Terry ran a gift shop in 1951. Within a few years, he also started dabbling with tax returns, doing them on the side during tax season. Eventually in 1960 he closed the cobbler and gift shops to focus on accounting full time.
He ran his tax business for over 57 years. He was extremely proud of his work as an accountant and worked hard to ensure his customers received all they were entitled. He was proud of the fact that during one tax season long before the advent of computers he processed and submitted over 3300 tax returns by himself. He was also proud of the fact that some of his clients were with him from Day 1, all 57 years. They started with him and transitioned to his daughter, Donna.
Roger and Terry traveled extensively and always enjoyed themselves no matter where they went. Roger particularly talked about their vacations to Rome, the Greek Isles, Banff, Canada, and several islands. But as much as he enjoyed traveling, home was where he was happiest.
Roger loved to dance, especially at weddings. He and Terry would get up and dance during any song that sounded like it originated in the 1940s or 50s.
Although not a great athlete, Roger was an accomplished ice skater and even skated in the Manchester ice follies in the 1940’s. He played doubles tennis for many years, often playing 3 to 4 times a week. He also golfed and loved playing at Derryfield Country Club. He couldn’t hit it far, but he always hit it straight. Roger also water and snow skied into his late 70s. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t try.
He also loved watching all the New England pro sports teams – the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots and Celtics. If there was a game on, he was watching it.
Roger is survived by his wife of 66 years Theresa; his son Ron and wife Sue of Manchester; his son Dennis of Las Vegas; his daughter Elaine and husband Gary Van Campen of Texas; his daughter Donna and husband Jim Moody of Manchester; his grandson Ross Boissonneault of Nashua; his granddaughter Tara Boissonneault of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Rachel; and his brother Norman.
