Obituary

Shelton, Raymond Lindy, 89, of Louisville passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Westport Place.
Ray was born Groundhog Day, February 2, 1928. He began his career as an announcer at WHAS Television, signing the station on in 1950.
During 25 years there, his principal sponsor was Greater Louisville First Federal, for them he was spokesperson for more than 40 years.
Highlights of his career included the American Bar Association Award; winning the Ed Sullivan local announcer audition; and winning the CBS Summer Announcer audition for staff work in New York.
From 1975 until retirement he served as Public Relations Director and V.P. at Kentucky’s largest Savings & Loan, Greater Louisville First Federal.
While working at WHAS TV he began the practice of law and continued for more than 50 years, with memberships in Kentucky and Louisville Bar Associations.
Ray was a long-time member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and the Brooks and Oak DuPont Manual Alumni Association.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Shelton (Girl next door) that he married June 30, 1950.
He is survived by his two children, Robin L. Shelton and Peri B. Shelton; a sister-in-law, Dottie Whallen.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy. Visitation will be 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Monday.
