Kathleen M. "Kathy" (Durant) Barends, a longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 65 years old.
Kathy was born in Boston on May 15, 1952, a daughter of the late Dorothy (Ford) Durant. She grew up in Dorchester where she was educated in the Boston Public School system. Kathy worked for several years as a waitress at Zito's Bar & Restaurant in Boston. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. Kathy enjoyed the simpler things in life and although she had to overcome many adversities in her life, she always found the way to toughen it out with a huge smile on her face.
Kathy is the devoted mother of Laurie Barends, Linda Barends, Billy Barends and Kerri Capodilupo and her husband Brian. She is the loving Nana to Michael, MacKenzie, Dylan, Madison, Brian and Christopher. She is the beloved sister of Candy O'Donnell and her husband Jim, Col. U.S.M.C. Retired. She is the former wife of William J. Barends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kathy's visiting hours on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. with her Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be private.
