Robert Henry “Bob” Merritt, 83, of Abbeville, Georgia, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Johnny Ashe officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 2 PM until 3 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Merritt was born March 25, 1934, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Henry Matthew & Jewell Wofford Merritt. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Merritt worked at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins as an aircraft mechanic also. He was one of the founding partners of Northside Hardware, owner and operator of Rochelle Seafood, a truck driver and also a farm equipment mechanic for John Deere. Mr. Merritt loved boating and skiing. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband: Julie & Terry Day of Abbeville; two grandchildren: Gwen & Chad Morgan and Jonathan Day; one great-grandchild, Christopher Morgan and a brother, Billy & Maureen Merritt of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wynona Merritt; a son, Bobby Merritt; a brother, Jimmy Merritt and a sister, Lawana Wilcox.
