Zelia DeCost, 61, of Adelaide Road, Chepachet, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of David J. DeCost, Sr.
Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Luis Coelho and Zelia (DaPonte) Coelho-Medeiros. She was the stepdaughter of the late Freddy Medeiros. She had lived in Chepachet for the last four years and had previously lived in Smithfield.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Luther Church, serving on the Board of Deacons and the LWML.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Melissa A. DeGroot and her husband Adam of Chepachet, Charissa G. Hallam and her husband Matthew of Lincoln, Alicia S. Nichols of North Providence and Faythe M. Nichols of Chepachet, two stepchildren; Grace E. DeCost and David DeCost, Jr., her four grandchildren: Noah, Knox, Anthony and Lucas and her siblings: Fred Coelho and his wife Joanne of Florida, Alfred Mederios and Louis Coelho and his wife Beth all of Riverside, and Mary Gunderson and her husband John of Woodstock, CT.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 6th at 10am in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 54 Cedar Swamp Road, Smithfield. Burial will be in Acote’s Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation Friday, January 5th 4-8pm in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, ( 54 Cedar Swamp Road 02917, or visit website: Our Redeemer Lutheran Church ) and designate "Zel's Bells" in memo, a trust fund set aside for daughters, Alicia and Faythe.
