Obituary

GRANT, Christopher, died peacefully at Clark House Nursing Center in Westwood, MA, on December 29, 2017, at age 88.

With his wife Anne "Gilly", who died in 2001, Chris raised three sons in Dedham, MA, living in the same house on High Street for 55 years. After his wife’s death, he was devoted to his ladyfriend Natalie "Nini" Colmore, and spent many happy years at Fox Hill Village in Westwood, MA, before ill health brought on a move to Clark House in 2015. Always full of enthusiasm (and renowned among his many friends for it), Chris loved to sail, ski, and play tennis and golf. He spent summers in Nahant, MA, from his childhood until retirement, and then in Tamworth, NH. Never one to take himself too seriously, he surrounded himself with friends and loved a well-told story and a good laugh. Chris was a true gentleman in every sense of the word: polite, self-deprecating, gentle, and unfailingly honest.

He was father of Christopher Grant, Jr., and his wife Martha of Sandwich, NH, Nicholas G. Grant and his wife Jean of Natick, MA, and Alexander G. Grant and his wife Carol of Dedham, MA. He was grandfather of Benjamin, Samuel, Alice, Audrey, Lily, Ian and Maggie Grant. He was brother of the late Anne Hollingsworth and Alexander, Frederick, John, and Patrick Grant. Chris graduated from Milton Academy in 1947 and Harvard College in 1951. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 as a lieutenant in Korea. He was employed at State Street Bank & Trust Company from 1953 until 1991.

Chris’s family is grateful for the loving, dedicated, and compassionate care he received from the nurses and staff of Clark House and Hope Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 59 Court Street, Dedham, MA 02026. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s in his name.
