Elinor Patricia Fenley, 96, died Thursday, December 21st, 2017 in the Overlook Nursing Home.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Queenie (Saxton) Hurst. Elinor became one of the first female Providence Police Officers in 1958 and worked for the Providence Police Department until her retirement. She also held several degrees in Nursing and had been employed as an adjunct faculty member of the Nursing Department at Rhode Island College. She became a member of the Nursing Honor Society in 1985, and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Ian in 1988. She had also worked in the VA Hospital in Providence for twenty years.
She is survived by her daughter, Elinor Fortin of Ludlow, Vermont, her eight beloved grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and her brother, John Hurst of Warwick. She is predeceased by her sons, John J. Fenley and Stephen M. Fenley, as well as her siblings, Kenneth Hurst, Frances Magnan and Ronald Hurst.
Funeral Saturday December 30th at 10am in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Johnston. Visitation Friday, December 29th 5-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
