John Douglas Packard, 74, of Medway, died December 26 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Sandra R. (Peterson) Packard for the past 50 years.
Born in Boston, August 22,1943, the son of the late Ernest and Marjorie (Estabrook) Packard, Mr. Packard had been a Medway resident since 1949.
He was a 1961 graduate of Medway High School.
John had been a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. He had worked at the Medway Country Manor for many years before retiring in 2010. Previously he had worked at Milford Regional Hospital, several nursing agencies, doctors’ offices and Medfield State Hospital.
He had enjoyed fishing and hunting, medal detecting, gardening, trips to the casinos and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Packard served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of HM2.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, John Packard, Jr. and his wife Traci of East Douglas and Kevin Packard of Rutland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary Packard of Boxboro and Emma and Jacob Packard of Holden.
He is also survived by his sisters, Katherine Mosher of Medway and Francis Desillier of Avon Park, Florida and his sisters-in- laws, Patricia Packard of Lantana, , Florida and Nancy Packard of Avon Park, Florida.
He was the brother of the late, Mary Dupuis, Jeanne Parker, Marjorie Packard, Christine Blethen, Franklin, C. Edward, Ernest, Jr., Gerald and Daniel Packard.
His calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 3 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway from 4-8 p.m.
Services and interment will be private.
