Obituary

June M. Johnson, 78, of Ledyard, passed suddenly on December 22nd at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with her beloved husband of 51 years, Bruce E. Johnson, at her side.

She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 18, 1939 to Ian and Elizabeth Fraser during World War II where she and her family lived through the bombings on the city by Germany.

She attended North Kelvinside School and later Nursing and Dental Assistant School in Glasgow.

After immigrating to the United States on her own in 1964, she moved to New London and met the love of her life within a year; they would marry November 26, 1966 and start their family in Ledyard.

June proudly became a citizen of the United States in 1971, but would forever hold Scotland close to her heart.

As a compassionate, caring and civic-minded individual, June gave back her time and energy to serve the community. She was an Emergency Medical Technician with the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Service and would serve as its director. She formed close ties and whose alumni continue to meet regularly.

As her children grew older she returned to the work force, where she spent 22 years at Lawrence and served as a Health Unit Coordinator in the Intensive Care Unit. It was at L&M that she made many beloved and long-lasting friendships and touched many lives. Her family takes solace that it was there that she spent her last minutes in the care of Doctors and Nurses she knew and loved.

Retiring in 2006, she and Bruce spent their time together exploring the world visiting 45 different countries.

June is survived by her beloved husband Bruce E. Johnson; her son Craig B.E. Johnson and his partner Natasha Singer and her children; her daughter Erica M. Vaters, her husband Ronald and their two children Jacob and Nathan; and her two sisters in the U.K., Elizabeth Khan and Isobel Saville and their families.

She leaves a vast hole in the lives of those who knew and loved her. She will be missed.

Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, January 12, from 4 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Celebration of Life for all her friends will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 11am at the funeral home. The family has requested that any donations be directed to the L+M Development Fund, 365 Montauk Avenue, New London CT 06320.
