Obituary

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO IMPENDING WEATHER CONDITIONS SERVICES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY JANUARY 5.

Whitman – Joyce A. (MacRoberts) (Gurney) Littlefield 86, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday December 25 after suffering a stroke.

Residing most of her life in Whitman, on the same street she grew up on, she was the daughter of the late Florence and Freeman MacRoberts.

She was a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1949. After graduation she worked at the former Regal Shoe Company until her marriage to the late Sherman Gurney.

For many years she was a “stay at home” mom, she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, volunteered for Youth Group, helped to run a Brownie troop, had acted in many plays at the United Methodist Church and she was a member of the Whitman Mother’s Club.

She loved to sew and made countless outfits of perfection for herself and her children. Eventually Joyce learned to drive and after the death of Sherman, went to work at the former Standard Products.

She later married Clayton Littlefield, Jr and before his passing, they had enjoyed traveling around New England together and vacationing in Plymouth at “The Camp”.

Joyce loved her family, leaving behind her children David Gurney and his wife Darlene, Kathy O’Keefe and her husband Bob and John Gurney and his wife Lee, as well as six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elsie Chadwick, her brother Jim MacRoberts, her former daughter-in-law Cheryl Poole and her husband Roger and her close lifelong friends Eleanor Canty and Alice Tavitian.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours to be held Friday January 5 from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, with a service honoring Joyce to follow at 6:00PM. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations are made to the United Methodist Church, 503 South Ave, Whitman, MA 02382, where Joyce was a lifelong and faithful servant, or to the charity of your choice.
