ROCCO, Rose Josephine of Roslindale, passed away peacefully the morning of December 22, at the age of 92. Cherished daughter of the late Antonio and Mary Rocco of Roslindale; loving sister to the late Frank Rocco, Ann Richard, and Rita Binda. Rose is survived by her niece Rita Clark and husband Gregory of Las Vegas, NV, and their sons, Patrick, Christopher, and Nicholas, her niece Rose Richard Cashman and husband Daniel of Franklin, and their children Ryan, Katharine, and Connor, her nephew Joseph Richard and his partner Rene Morrissette of Jamaica Plain, and her brother-in-law Louis Binda of Norwood.
A graduate of Northeastern University, Rose spent her professional career as the executive assistant to the Hospital Director at the U.S. Public Health Hospital, known today as Brighton Marine Health Center. In her youth, Rose became one of a handful of Americans to tour pre-Castro Cuba sparking a passion of travel which would take her across America, Canada, and the Caribbean. Her favorite destinations were the warm and welcoming islands of Bermuda and Hawaii. A lifelong native of Boston, Rose loved the theatre and introduced her nieces and nephew to the spectacle of the stage, inspiring a lasting admiration of live performance. She was a member of the Parkway Bowling League for many years, continuing to bowl well into her eighties. Rose leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, family, friends, and independence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose’s name to the Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain.
Funeral from the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., WEST ROXBURY, Thursday, Dec. 28 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours omitted. Interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
